Staten Island is one of the five boroughs of New York City, located in the southwest corner of the city. It has a population of approximately 475,000 people and covers an area of 58.5 square miles. The island is connected to the rest of the city by the Staten Island Ferry and several bridges. It is known for its suburban neighborhoods, parks, and beaches, as well as its historic landmarks such as the Staten Island Museum and the Staten Island Zoo. The island is also home to the Freshkills Park, a former landfill that is being transformed into a public park.
